Soon

Ok, you guys are too funny. Just give me another week or so. I've got 60 nails to cut, have discovered gunk accumulating behind everyone's ears (even though I deliberately make sure to wash there), and chubs has something fungal or who-knows-what growing in his neck rolls. Besides that, I have to start taking the twins to physical therapy a few times a week because they're "delayed" (roll of the eyes). Aren't milestones that way because they're supposed to be averages? At any rate, hearing your kids are delayed isn't exactly a mood booster when you're already feeling like a lame mom, no matter how much you think they're still fine. Ain't nothing wrong with being just another pretty face, is there? They'll do stuff eventually....

Be back soon. (I won't add when I'm a little more on top of things because heaven knows that will never happen.)

AH, Hope springs eternal!
I looked for you in spite of your threat to take a holiday...a hiatus, you wrote...

And you have brightened my morning by being there, even with a complaint.

You are SOOOOO talented in your writing AND as a mother, and as the great person you are. I think you must not realize what a refreshing breath you are to your readers.Glad you are back.

THANKS, many thanks!

Yes! Hooray! You are back.

Thanks for your help with the molten lava cakes that were a hit with Sunday dinner - served with a bundle of fresh raspberries at the side.

Remember, your babies were born early. That puts them behind others their "age." Milestones are just that milestones to achieve sometime - an average. Other people's babies might be sitting up by age 6 months (barely, and toppling often). Yours will sit up later. The minute they start walking you will wish they had not, and so it goes. Physical therapy will be good for them, and for the one who is favoring one side. Our doctors teach parents all the time about range-of-motion exercises, for the possibility of torticollis. This is indeed the age at which that should be corrected, and not left until a later point. Just lucky you like your doctor. That is a HUGE step in the right direction for whatever it is they might need. I cannot tell you how many things they could have had but did not, and for that we can all be thankful. The babies I type about every day are the premature twins, triplets, who have all sorts of things that you escaped. I, for one, am very, very, very grateful they are so adorable, charming, smiling, happy, and obviously healthy. Much love to all.

Jen we love you and your blog. We miss you guys. Take all the time you need. Good luck with the physical therapy - what do they have to work on?

So, can I give you some tips? Because I've dealt with both the neck roll yeast and the ear crust. #1 after their bath, make sure you dry in between the rolls, then powder them up. It's especially bad when it's humid, of course and when milk spills down there. #2 my kids have serial gunk behind their ears. It's mostly when my husband doesn't rinse really well from washing their hair and then you have to make sure it's dry after the bath otherwise the skin to skin contact starts breaking itself down and causes the crusties. Lovely thought. But anyway, I just had to give you my .02, but I'm sure you've already been through it with your Dr. Glad to know you'll be back soon, Jen! Liz

Okay so I have to laugh at only 60 nails to trim. Obviously you are neglecting your own, as any mother in your shoes would! I remember well knowing I couldn't leave the house until I had fed and clothed four of us . . . and not being able to leave for any length of time without trimming all those nails.
As for the physical therapy, I would think you'd be glad to turn them over to someone else for a bit!

Oh, I got the "delayed" Thing too. Noah started in Speech Therapy and then they "discovered" that at 18 months he couldn't jump off of the ground, so then they put him in Gross Motor Therapy, and then he wouldn't copy the teacher when she drew a straight line on a paper, so they put him in Fine motor therapy...Needless to say, he graduated from the motors therapy in a few sessions when he decided to cooperate and the speech therapy turned out to be a fun thing to do. Don't worry, you're a good mom.

I wondered about the powder thing, thanks Liz.

Preston is reading with me. He says Hi to Cash and Cash has a big police car (at Grandma's). I remember on my mission never having time to cut my nails. Since then I always know I am too busy when I don't have time to cut my nails or the kids.

Preston doesn't like it when Aunt Jen moves. He wants to go to Cash's house.

When Michael was in first or second grade we got a note sent home from school saying he was "hoarse" and needed speech therapy. So I thought, "Well, it's free, what can it hurt?" So I signed the note and sent it back. Next I got a note saying they couldn't give him therapy until he had had a thorough check-up from his doctor to make sure there was nothing medically wrong. So I took him to an ENT specialist which cost a lot of money and they literally made him swallow (without putting him to sleep) a little telescope so they could see the insides of his esophogus on their computer screen. They said he was perfectly healthy but he should probably have his tonsils out. So we scheduled the tonsilectomy and he did just fine. I think it was the next year when I finally sent back the note saying he was fine to have the therapy. The therapy was, "Michael, when you are on the playground playing with the other chilren, practice not yelling, because yelling is abusing your vocal chords."

Good luck with everything! Hope you figure out the fungal thing, and good luck with the physical therapy. Twins (especially boys) are just SLOWER to develop in so many areas. We're in the process of getting my guys evaluated for speech therapy. What a joy. Considering that they talk about as well as kids who are about a year younger than them, I'm feeling like a real winner of a mom.

Jen,

I hope your hiatus has been a good break. Several times this week I checked in after a long day at school to see if you were back - I needed my dose of humor/reality like only you can tell it! I can be patient, but just know that you are missed!
