Beds

This is the bed I want to get for the boys.  I love everything about it - even the cute girl bedding - too bad it will not look that cute when we really have it.  I'm sure if the boys have their way it will be covered in something aesthetically unappealing like Spider Man.  Why do we have to have such different taste? I should just get whatever I want and say it came with the bed and then they won't think they have a choice - the only problem is that I'm sure I can't afford whatever it is that I would want.

Anyhow, does anyone have any other suggestions for bunk beds or any other three-kids-in-a-room options that they like?  I love that this has stairs and a trundle and full size beds.  I wish it was cheaper, but all the cheaper ones have ladders or uglier designs and look less solid.  I'm sure this bed will see lots of action in it's time, so sturdy is probably better.

Little baby Diesel is going to be the prince of the house being the only person who has a bedroom all to himself.  (I will be slightly jealous. :) But I'm sick of sharing my room with all my babies and maybe this will help little fussy sleeper become a little more routine.

Oh, and um, I guess you should get your 5 year-old out of a crib before he starts Kindergarten.  Don't tell him it's totally weird that he's still in one... he doesn't know any better! It's just if he had one the others would want one and they were naughty boys who needed crib tents so no way was I letting them in big beds without any restraining options.  I mean, Cash can climb in and out of it fine....but yeah, pretty sure that doesn't make you the cool kid in school.  :)

We had our three boys in a twin over full bunk bed for years. We've only just now separated out the almost ten year old to his own room. I don't think you want the trundle--too much capacity for mayhem and I also think you want the ladder instead of the stairs more than you realize. Since you have Diesel, you will need to have the option of removing access to the top bunk to keep him from climbing to his demise. A little boy in our ward did that and ended up breaking both his legs in the fall and needing to be carried around for months while they healed because he couldn't walk in the casts. The ladder removal won't work forever, but it will for a little while. When the boys are older, they'll all just climb up anyway and you can remove the ladder entirely forever.

We have had great luck with Costco furniture. CafeKids makes the bunk we have and it is SOLID. It can also be separated to be just a full and twin bed if we want. And because it's Costco, the price is reasonable. We waited six months for the dresser my daughter wanted to be in stock again because we could find nothing as sturdy or as big for anywhere near the price.

Alternatively, just put the three of them in a full bed cross wise. They'll fit, they'll probably love it and it's an interim option until you can be in a place with more room.

Bearing in mind that bunk beds are a huge pain to make and it will mean that your boys will struggle learning the skill for far longer than if you had regular stand alone beds. But you do what you have to do.

I love that he is still in a crib! And I agree, it has been very apparent to me recently that people tend to be nicer out west. However, we miss the beach, you guys, and all of our awesome friends!

We too wanted a bunk bed with stairs for our girls, but could not afford it. We ended up finding one with a ladder at the end of the beds. Bella has been perfectly fine with a ladder. I am actually glad now, because the stairs just take up that much more room.

The full bed cross wise sounds like a great idea. Good luck.

That bunk bed set looks great! Paying more for 'sturdy' will be so totally worth it. Pottery Barn stuff is usually super sturdy, but pricey. Craig is working on beds for our girls right now too, I wish you guys lived closer...

Glad you are enjoying an extended trip to Utah. It can be very re-energizing! By the way, where did you get your crib tents? We are at that stage....

I hate bunk beds because of the "hard to make" factor too, but if that's what you have to do to fit it in then your kids might be happy needing to get your help making them for a long time!

Jane is still in a toddler bed (same size as a crib.) If her head it at the very top, her toes are touching the railing at the end. I just need her to hold out until we move because trying to fit another twin bed in that room would have been tough (and you already know I hate making bunk beds!)

We're moving 2 weeks before she starts kindergarten, so she should still have a shot at being the coolest kid in school!

That bed looks great. I laughed when you mentioned Cash and the crib. I was at gymboree the other day buying some jeans for Harrison and I bought a pair of 5T. The store clerk said "just so you know 5T is made to fit a kid with diapers." I looked at her and said "what kid is still in diapers at 5?" She shrugged and said "you'd be surprised." So it may happen that Cash wont be the only "uncool" kid in Kindergarten. Ive never met a 5 still in diapers but hey...

I might be able to get that cheaper for you. We would just need to figure out shipping from a warehouse in Atlanta. :) If you're interested shoot me an email and I can call on Monday.
