Oh, Cash.

We have Cash in this little exercise class with a friend of his. Each week they learn a few basics of a different sport or skill like jump-roping, tennis and even lacrosse (with tiny little lacrosse sticks). Here's a little gem I happened to catch during the volleyball week. Perhaps it will be a little self-explanatory as to why we have him in a class like this.

(Sorry, any poor footage was from me laughing so hard. In case you can't tell from the video - he closes his eyes and flinches every time the ball comes near him!) I know, maybe people will say not every kid is into sports, but well, as Ryan put it when he first saw the video, "Yeah, that's the kind of kid that gets nailed in dodge ball."

That is so funny. Awww... Cash, what a funny boy! Tyler just lets the ball hit him in the head and laughs. Doesn't get the whole catching idea.

That is awesome. Especially the commentary of the nice volleyball teacher. :)

It will probably be like swimming and even Halloween. At the very end of each "sport" he will be proud of himself and like it at that point (when it is over).

What fun.

Love, Grammy

I think it's a great idea to have him in this class where he can sort of gradually get used to it, with such a nice teacher, as opposed to waiting until the social torture of school PE begins.

Funny! I kind of play sports like that too.

Yeah, hopefully that class will do him some good. That's funny. He will get it eventually. Maybe you can't be brilliant and sporty at the same time. I think I would rather be brilliant like Cash.

I was laughing so hard! Reminds me of ME! He will grow into it, but until then just keep him away from the bullies. Knowledge of his skill level will only open him up to nasty nicknames that will stay with him for YEARS (again,I have first hand knowledge!)

I didn't find the video funny at all. I felt so sorry for Cash all day. I couldn't see that the teacher was helping him in any way. Seems like Cash and probably many 3 year old kids need some easier steps to catching a ball before having a ball thrown at them. And expecting kids to jump the rope???? Come on.Maybe I needed to see how the teacher built up to this particular moment.I really feel for Cash.

Nah, they mostly just jumped over a rope on the ground. I guess everyone sees things differently, huh? I'm always pretty tempted to just delete anonymous comments that won't sign a name to it though. Really, knowing he's like this you don't think it's better to try something like this with 5 three year-olds than an elementary class full of kids that have already learned how to make fun of people? I sure do. And knowing his funny little personality makes me love this video. I think it's classic!

that is funny...I think he will get it, some kids naturally have it and some naturally get it later in life. Don't give up on him yet. Like the instructor said...pretty amazing he can do it with his eyes shut. Jen, could you keep your eyes shut while playing VB in highschool? maybe he's going for that accomplishment. (I love your blog, you always make me laugh)

Oh my goodness, Adam and I about died laughing about the combination of that video and Ryan's comment! That's awesome.

We love all of your boys!

He is so sweet. That instructor IS nice. I love how she keeps saying "open your eyes" and is positive. Great little class for him.

We have the opposite problem. Jacob is huge. Very tall, very strong. Yet, he just. can't. pay. attention. Really it's ridiculous So, we have him in sports to try and (1) burn off some of his energy (2) get him used to following instructions and rules.

Every kid has their own strengths and weaknesses. Our job as parents is to recognize that, praise their accomplishments and help them with their struggles. You guys are doing a great job with that AND keeping your sense of humor though it too.
