I just saw this article that was in the Deseret News, talking about Mormons and the Presidential election and stuff: http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695242228,00.html
Just to give you a taste of the article:
"If you denigrate a racial group, you're racist.
If you denigrate women, you're sexist.
If you denigrate Mormons, you're hip."

What an interesting article, isn't it?? Kind of makes ya think. I think I'll post that link on my blog too. It's worth reading.
We've been talking about this very thing. And you know why they get away with it? Mormons turn the other cheek. We don't fight back. We don't blow up buildings or start rioting. I guess we all know that it's just part of being a Mormon. I mean, it's not like we (our Mormon ancestors) didn't have an extermination order out against us. It's not like mobs weren't hunting people down and murdering them in cold blood or anything.
One interesting thing though--I got a forwarded e-mail from my Mormon aunt that talked about Obama being a Muslim and that we shouldn't vote for him because of that. I'm assuming she felt the same way because she passed it on. It's not true and I sent back an e-mail to everyone on her list refuting it. I think it's amazing that anyone in our country wouldn't vote for someone simply because of their race, religion, or gender.
I'm not sure if I'm going to vote for Romney, or not. That depends on his character. I'm sure not going to vote for him simply because he's Mormon, and I'm not going to vote for anyone specifically because they aren't.
Thanks for the link to that article. I think if there were more articles written like that....well, maybe it could change some minds.
I didn't mean to say "his character". That's the best thing he has going for him. He is squeaky clean. I meant to say his "politics." That's how I vote--by the important issues.
very well said...its a weird phenomenon. this author put into words what i feel sometimes and dont know why i feel like a trapped animal in a corner.
All i can say is...Mitt is proving he can pull through despite all...it'll be cool to see him go all the way!
I guess that just goes to show another way in which we are a "Peculiar People". Sometimes I wish people would just take a minute or two and try to understand who we are and not jump to conclusions.
